Make Conservation a California Way of Life
Reducing your water use to meet our Valley-wide conservation target isn’t a one-time thing. While it’s great to meet that milestone, the goal is to continue water-saving practices daily, until they become a habit and a lifestyle. Saving water is a continuous act. Learning and implementing water-efficient habits will help you make better choices for your water use, and help you become a better steward of this precious and vital resource.
Effective Ways to Save Water
To save water, everyone has an important role no matter where we live, work or play. We are the stewards of this precious resource. All customers can:
- Focus on efficiency. Aim for the most benefit with the least waste.
- Find and fix leaks. Small leaks can really add up, but regular inspection can help minimize and even prevent them.
- Report water waste. Neighbors and businesses may not even realize they have a leak, overspray, run-off or another wasteful condition. Help save water by reporting it online.
Conservation Long-Term Framework
SB 606 and AB 1668, signed in 2018 and referred to as the Long-Term Framework legislation, are intended to make conservation a California way of life. The legislation tasked the California Department of Water Resource (DWR) with providing regulation recommendations to the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) that include water use efficiency Standards and Performance Measures for urban retail water suppliers. Both are intended to improve water efficiency at an urban retail water supplier level. Standards establish quantitative requirements, such as annual water use relative to water budgets, that must be tracked and reported. Performance Measures are more qualitative in nature and will require implementation of various conservation measures and programs, for example.
In response to the State mandate, SCV Water will update important planning documents including its Sustainable Water Use Strategic Plan and the Water Shortage Contingency Plan, as well as implement conservation programs and complete supplemental research and evaluation.
